Beyond the Notes

Playing the right notes is only the beginning.

Listening Before Playing

The longer I play, the more I realize that music is not only about playing the right notes. I listen for where a phrase is going and adjust how I play in response.

02 / Music × Movement

When Music Becomes Movement

The music does not stop at my fingertips.

When I dance, I notice the same things I listen for at the piano: the direction of a phrase, a change in energy, or a moment of tension. Somehow, what I hear at the piano becomes something I can express through my body.

Beyond the Notes

At some point, playing music became less about reproducing what was on the page and more about finding myself within it.

A technically perfect performance can still feel empty. The music has to have direction, intention, and something that belongs to the person playing it.
